A recent spate of vandalism has occurred in the greenbelt behind the homes in the Spread and Cimarron neighborhoods. The target has been sprinkler heads. Lots of them! Nearly $3,000 worth! These sprinkler heads remain out-of-sight, and out of harm’s way, until they have popped up and are running. Our sprinklers generally run some time after it gets dark. The most recent incidents have occurred between 9 p.m. and midnight. Because of the value of the damages, Jefferson County Sheriff’s is pursuing the crime as a felony, not merely a Class II misdemeanor offense. Ken-Caryl Ranch is committed to vigorously pursuing prosecution and conviction of the individuals involved.
Residents observing acts of vandalism, or even suspicious activities, are encouraged to promptly contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s dispatcher at 303-277-0211. If the results of vandalism are observed after the act, please also report it to the KCRMD’s Parks Department at 303-904-7265. In all cases, callers reporting vandalism will remain anonymous. You might even take the dog out for a night-time walk and let your presence help deter this offensive behavior. In short, vandalism costs you plenty and reduces the Metro District’s limited funds that were earmarked for useful commodities and services. Take pride in your community and don’t let vandalism go unreported. But always call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dispatcher FIRST 303-277-0211.
Imagine, lastly, how much improved the parks and greenbelts would be if the $2,670 spent to replace these sprinkler heads in the last two weeks had been applied to the purchase of a dozen new trees.
