Beacon-Tincup Phase II – Fuel Mitigation Project
Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space and the Colorado State Forest Service will be continuing work on the fuels reduction project between Beacon Hill and Tin Cup. Work will begin by a private contractor in mid-June when appropriate conditions occur, with completion by June 30. The project will maintain the 29-acre fuel break that was established in 2016.
The contractor will be treating previously cut oak brush by spraying a woody vegetation-specific herbicide that will suppress the re-sprouting from residual root systems. The objectives of this project are to maintain wildfire suppression opportunities, overall forest health and aesthetics of the Open Space property. During forestry operations, there will be signs posted giving trail-users advanced warning that contractor equipment operations are active. Trail closures may be needed occasionally to accommodate equipment use and to provide safety to the public. Any closures will be coordinated by Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space Rangers.
