Metropolitan District Board Aug. 21 Meeting Summary
On Aug. 21, the Metropolitan District Board held a regular business meeting at 6 p.m. The following topics were discussed:
- Gallagher Amendment Impacts – The Board received updated information on the projected Gallagher Amendment impacts in 2019 and 2020. District Manager Daruna has been following and attending the interim congressional committee hearings focused on a long-term solution. She updated the Board on the latest adjustment projections and potential congressional action in 2019 or 2020. The District should expect to see the decline in tax revenue before any potential long-term solution takes effect, however.
- Proposed Mill Levy Increase Ballot Initiative – The District staff and Board provided background information on the proposed mill levy increase ballot initiative to a packed room. The Board then heard public feedback and comment. Following public comment, the Board discussed, at length, the amount of the potential mill increase and what would work best for the community. At the end of the meeting, the Board took action to hold a November 2018 election to ask the community for an 8 mill increase. More information on this ballot initiative can be found on the website.
