Riding Lessons
The Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center Riding School offers English and Western lessons for riders of all experience levels, from beginner to intermediate. Riders may use one of the Equestrian Center’s horses or bring their own.
The Riding School uses a standardized level system to help students understand the skills needed to advance and track their progress over time.

SUNDAY AT THE STABLES
Ken-Caryl Ranch Resident: $200
Nonresident: $240
Sunday at the Stables is a two-week horsemanship group course focused on learning from the ground. Designed for young riders, this program builds knowledge and confidence outside of the saddle.
During week one, participants will learn the basics of barn safety, equine body language and feeding routines. In week two, they will explore horse care in more depth, with hands-on activities like practicing how to treat simulated injuries and learning to recognize signs of distress.
Classes are held from 9–11 a.m. on two consecutive Sundays.
PRIVATE LESSON
Ken-Caryl Ranch Resident: $85
Nonresident: $99
Students work one on one with their instructor on a customized lesson plan designed to support their individual goals. Lessons are collaborative, helping riders build confidence both in and out of the saddle.
Rates are per hour.
INTRODUCTION TO HORSEMANSHIP

Horsemanship classes are one hour long and provide a well-rounded introduction to horse care and handling. The program covers a wide range of topics and can be tailored to your level of interest and experience. It is a great option for horse owners, parents of riders and anyone interested in learning more about caring for horses.
Each session can be customized to focus on topics of interest, including:
- Grooming and bathing
- Equine first aid
- Effective groundwork
- Common ailments and treatments
- Feeding your horse
- Hoof care
- Care of saddles, bridles and tack
- Safety
- Arena etiquette

BARN BUDDIES
Celebrate Your Birthday at the Barn
Celebrate your special day with the horses! Put on your boots and get ready for a fun and memorable experience at the barn.
Birthday parties include a one-hour, hand-led riding experience where each child takes turns riding the same horse. After the ride, you’re welcome to continue your celebration with cake and presents in the indoor riding school office, at the outdoor picnic tables, or at the Dakota Lodge playground. Please note that food is not provided.
Party Details
- $150 includes one instructor and one horse
- Up to 6 children included

What to Know Before You Go
- Closed-toe shoes are required to ride; long pants are recommended
- Parents are responsible for children when they are not riding
- Please no running or shouting near the horses
- Decorations are allowed inside the office; balloons are not permitted
- Children ages 4 to 5 may ride with a parent walking alongside and must bring their own helmet

Complete the Equestrian Center Waiver
The Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center is owned by Ken-Caryl residents and is a community amenity. Nonresidents who participate in programs or activities are subject to a 20% nonresident fee.
Payment is due at the time of booking through the Equestrian Center’s online scheduling system.
