Pool Locations and Hours

Official 2026 Pool Opening: May 30
We know the community is eager to dive into summer, and we share that excitement. To ensure we provide the safest and most enjoyable environment possible for every guest, our pools will officially open for the season May 30.

Why the May 30 Date? As a community-focused organization, we take great pride in being a primary employer for our local youth. However, this means our operations are closely tied to the academic calendar.

Academic Commitments: This year, high schools in both Jefferson and Douglas counties are not officially out of session until May 29, later than previous years. Until that date, our staff members are finishing final exams, attending graduation ceremonies, and fulfilling their year-end sports and extracurricular commitments.

Staffing Levels: While we are fortunate to have a dedicated group of college students on our team, they do not represent enough personnel to fully and safely staff our facilities during daytime hours. We require our full team to meet the strict safety ratios our district adheres to, as set by our skilled risk management company, StarGuard.

The Importance of Training. Safety is about much more than a whistle; it requires comprehensive preparation and intense training. Bringing on a team of 60 employees simultaneously is a major undertaking and takes time.

Because our high school staff are currently balancing their studies and extracurricular activities, our mandatory certification classes, pool operation drills, and guest service training are limited to narrow evening and weekend windows. We are committed to giving our team the time they need to be fully prepared to set the district and community up for a safe, service-minded and successful summer.

Safety and service remain our top priorities. Opening on May 30 allows us the time to ensure a full team of fully trained and certified lifeguards who are ready to provide a safe and welcoming experience from the start of the season.

Pool Closure Information: What You Need to Know

We understand that arriving at the pool only to find it closed can be frustrating. Our goal is to be transparent about why closures happen. Every decision is made with your safety and the well-being of our staff in mind.

Why Pools May Close

Inclement Weather

Your safety is our top priority. In accordance with our aquatic risk management company, StarGuard Elite, pools must close when:

  • Thunder is heard or lightning is seen.
  • Lightning is detected within 10 miles.

The pool must remain closed for at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or visible lightning. During this time, you will be required to leave both the pool and the pool deck for your safety and the safety of our lifeguards.

If the weather causes only a short closure, we will not post updates on social media. However, if a full-day closure is expected, we will make every effort to update the Ken-Caryl Ranch Facebook page.

Temperature Closures

Pools will close for the day if the forecasted high temperature is 60 degrees or lower. If it is warmer than 60 degrees, the pools will remain open, regardless of attendance.

Lifeguard Staffing

Each pool is divided into zones, and every zone must have a certified lifeguard. If we do not have enough qualified lifeguards to staff every zone safely, we cannot open the pool. This ensures proper supervision and quick response in case of an emergency.

Unforeseen Incidents

Occasionally, unexpected events may require us to close the pool temporarily. These may include accidents in the pool or the presence of unsafe items in the water. When these situations occur, we must close the pool to thoroughly clean and sanitize the area before reopening.

Additional Information

  • No refunds will be given for closures due to weather or unforeseeable events.
  • Guests may receive a hand stamp to return to any Ken-Caryl Ranch pool later the same day.
  • You can monitor the weather using the WeatherBug app, just like our lifeguards.
  • You can also view the recording of our Aquatics Education Night to learn more about our policies and procedures.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to a safe and enjoyable pool season.
