Middle School Sports Program

The Middle School Sports Program (MSSP) provides students at participating Jefferson County middle schools the opportunity to play in after-school sports programs alongside their peers.

  • All programs are recreational and open to all ability levels with an emphasis on fun, sportsmanship, and fair play.
  • Participants learn about sports in a safe, supervised environment and play games against other middle schools in Jefferson County.
  • Practices are held on site at the school, immediately after school’s release time.
  • Games are held on the same days of the week, replacing practice for that day.
  • Parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from games.
  • All players must wear their MSSP Team shirt to games/meets.

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District only coordinates Middle School Sports for Bradford. Students at at Deer Creek, Falcon Bluffs, Ken Caryl, and Summit Ridge Middle Schools are eligible to sign up through Foothills Parks & Recreation website

Practice and Game Schedules

Practices take place on with Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs from 4-5:30 p.m. Games will be on the same days in lieu of practice. Game times vary depending on venue, and school release times. Typically season schedules are available after the first few practices. The league must finalize the number of teams and create an equal schedule for all participating schools. Depending on the number of teams from each school, your schedule may be broken up based on grade, location, or field/gym availability. Bradford Intermediate can only accommodate home games for Flag Football and Soccer.

Parents will be responsible for getting athletes to and from games/meets.

You can find game/meet and tournament schedules on Team Sideline.

*All cancellations must be made at least one week prior to the start of practices. Please e-mail recreation@kcranch.org for a refund less a $10 charge. Alternatively, you may opt to receive a credit on your account at no additional cost. No refunds will be provided after the cancellation deadline.

Team Formation

Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (KCRMD) is required to give the number of teams and rosters to the Jefferson County League Board. Therefore, once the deadline for registration ends, we will not be able to add kids to the team.

KCRMD will create teams on a first come first serve basis. This will occur in the order each child is registered. We will have as many teams as we can to accommodate the number of kids signed up. Please be aware, we need enough volunteer coaches to have more teams. Therefore, just because your child is registered does NOT mean they have a spot on the team. Once a volunteer coach has been background-checked, we will begin notifying those registered first that their child is on a team. If we don’t get enough parents to volunteer as coaches, we will e-mail those who did not make a team soon after the volunteer deadline.

FAQS

Why do we not have tryouts for Middle School Sports?
Tryouts are typically implemented for more competitive leagues. The Jeffco league focuses on introducing and teaching kids the sport as well as enhancing skills that have already been developed. We want all kids to have equal opportunity in participating in our sports program.

Why isn’t registration open?
Registration for a sport will not open until Bradford Intermediate has provided KCRMD with a volunteer coach and that coach’s background check has come back clear.

Why can’t we have more than one team?
The number of teams for each sport is dependent on the number of volunteer coaches, the number of kids interested in the sport, and facility space for practice for each team. Space is especially limited at Bradford due to its gym capacity.

Why are all our games away/ far from Bradford?
Bradford school can only accommodate flag football and soccer games and does not have the capacity or trails necessary to host other sports. For more information on this, please contact Bradford Intermediate. Game locations are dependent on school and facility availability.

My student doesn’t attend Bradford. How can he/she sign up for Middle School Sports?
The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District only coordinates Middle School Sports for Bradford. Students at at Deer Creek, Falcon Bluffs, Ken Caryl, and Summit Ridge Middle Schools are eligible to sign up through Foothills Parks & Recreation website.

What is the Jefferson County League Board?
The Jeffco League Board is made up of different district representatives throughout Jefferson County. Each season all school representatives meet to discuss and finalize rules, schedules, and expectations for the season.
