Before & After School Recreation Program
Ken-Caryl Ranch’s B&A Programs follow the Jefferson County Public School District’s calendar.
For questions or more information email Youthprograms@kcranch.org or call 303-979-1876.

KCRMD Before & After School Recreation Programs provide a caring, safe, and fun learning environment. Students explore a wide variety of activities that develop learning, encourage imagination, and promote positive social and emotional skills. Join us for exciting science experiments, cooking, art projects, sports, games, reading, homework help and more!
Bradford students can attend either Before Care or After Care or both Before and After Care daily. Shaffer students only have After Care daily, as Shaffer’s school hours are much earlier in the day than Bradford. We also offer full day care on most scheduled no-school days, holidays, teacher development days for both Bradford and Shaffer students.

2024-2025 Registration is closed online but there is still space available in the Community Center and Ranch House programs.
Registration for the 2025-26 School Year will begin May 2 (District Residents) or May 9 (Non-Residents). This initial phase will just be the one-time registration fee.
Registration into the B&A program takes place annually and a registration fee is required. Participants must first register into the program before they are able to sign up for specific dates once the school year is in session.
25-26 B&A Registration Process
You will select the site (see above) you want your child to attend and register as either Drop-In or Regular:
- Drop-In Registration: Intended for participants that only need care once in a while (e.g., a few sporadic afternoons or only full days)
- Regular Registration: Intended for participants that will regularly attend before care, after care, or full days (e.g., M-Th afternoons and any Monday full days or every morning each month)
2025-2026 Daily Sign-up Procedures

FAQ’s
Can I register my child into any of the B&A program locations? NO. The Ranch House only serves Shaffer Elementary; the Dakota Lodge and Community Center sites only serve Bradford Kinder-6th grade. More specifically, the Dakota Lodge will feature activities that are geared towards students in grades 2nd and up and the Community Center will feature activities that are geared towards students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd.
Wait, one of my kids is in 4th grade at Bradford and the other is in 1st grade at Bradford, can they still attend the same site? YES, any Bradford student can register at either the Dakota Lodge or Community Center. We just want parents to be aware that the staff-led activities and behavior management system will be geared towards more specific ages (see above question). This creates a better quality program with a more enriching experience for the students.
If convenience is a top priority for you, you are more than welcome to sign both your children up at one site or the other. But if your children really want to be with other kids their age, please sign them up for the site geared towards their age group!
Do I have to sign up a certain amount of times to be considered Priority summer camp status? Basically yes. Participants in the Premier group (see above) for both fall and spring semester 2025-26 will get early access to summer camp 2026 registration.
How does my child get to and from school with the Ken-Caryl B&A program? We use 14-passenger mini buses and our B&A Instructors are also bus drivers and will drop-off and pick-up the kiddos each day.
What are the program hours? Before Care opens at 6:45am and drop-off goes until 8:30am when the bus departs for school. After Care goes from the end of the school day until 6:00pm. Full Day and Break Camp hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Where do Full Days and Break Camps take place? Any day that we are offering a full day program, they will be held at the Ranch House. Even if your child is registered and attending B&A at the Dakota Lodge or Community Center, if you sign them up for a full day program you will bring them to the Ranch House.
